This workshop will cover a variety of etching processes tailored to the interests and needs of the students attending the course. The course would suit those who are complete beginners as well as those with experience of etching who wish to have some expert guidance to pursue a particular technique.

Materials Zinc plates or copper plates, chemicals, solvents, inks and fine printing paper are all included in the cost of the course.
Venue The course takes place in The Queen’s School Art department in Chester, which has acid etching facilities, aquatint box and a floor standing 26” x 48” Rochat press. The art room is situated on the 2nd floor of the building and there is no lift, so access is limited to non-wheel chair users.
The courses will run with a maximum of 6 participants per day. Which means that you will get plenty of individual tuition. I use a traditional acid etching process using nitric acid, zinc, rosin aquatint and traditional grounds. Location
The course will take place in the Queen’s School Art department on City Walls Road, Chester. CH1 2NN (see attached map). Free Parking is possible in the school Quad or on Bedwood Row. Alternatively the Racecourse car park or the Linehall car park charge £4/5 for a days parking.
The studio is very spacious with wonderful north light and views over Chester.
It is advisable to wear old clothes and to bring an apron. You should bring a sketchbook or some sort of reference to work from as resources you may wish to use as a starting point. Tea & coffee will be provided but you will need to bring a packed lunch.
